Our Process
A truly personalized, collaborative experience
Our Approach to Financial Planning
We believe financial planning is a process, not a one time event. We believe the true value
we provide is supporting the implementation of your plan – which will evolve over time –
and being your ongoing financial advice and accountability partner.
Our process is best tailored toward physicians and their families who:
- Know they can do more with their money, but don’t know where to start or what choices are best
- Need expertise from someone who understands their career and life goals
- Want to spend less time trying to stay on top of their money, and more time doing the things they love
Step 1
Gather Your Financial Details
Our relationship will kick off with us gathering as much information as we can about your current financial situation. You’ll also set up your Wrenne Financial Planning (WFP) client website. It’s a powerful collaborative financial planning tool we use to create a complete financial picture, upload financial documents, and track your net worth and other financial metrics over time.
We know this can be a lot for our busy clients and we will have a member of our team guide you through what we need step-by-step.
Step 2
Meet to Discuss Your Goals
You’ll meet with your financial planner to discuss your financial values and priorities, as well as your short- and long-term financial goals. What your financial planner learns about you in this meeting will serve as the foundation of your financial plan.
Step 3
Draft Your Plan
Your financial planner and their team will then work on your comprehensive financial plan, focused on the areas that are important to you. We’ll review and analyze the financial details you’ve provided us and look for inefficiencies and gaps in planning. We’ll then draft strategies for bringing your current financial realities and future goals into alignment.
Step 4
Review Your Plan
During the review of the plan, you’ll let your financial planner know if they hit the mark or if changes need to be made. Once you sign off on the plan, it will serve as a tangible roadmap for how we will help you reach your financial goals.
Step 5
Put Your Plan in Motion
Depending on what you have prioritized in your plan, we will have a series of meetings to complete the tasks and review the items necessary to keep it on track.
Areas of focus may include:
- Setting up new financial accounts and/or consolidating your current financial accounts
- Implementing an asset allocation strategy across all household investment accounts
- Assisting you in shopping and reviewing home, auto, life and disability insurance
- Reviewing your student loan repayment options
Step 6
Evolve Your Plan Over Time
Once the plan has been set in motion you will settle into a routine of check-in meetings that work best for you (typically four a year) with your financial planner. During this time, we’ll review any timely financial matters, including our service calendar to-do’s, and check in on your progress toward your financial goals. We’ll also regularly revisit your plan to make sure it still fits with your needs and if not, we’ll work with you to revise it.

The majority of our clients are physicians in the first 10 years of their career (residency through attending).
